What I Learned in October (plus the Freebie offer I don’t want you to miss)

October is my favorite month, I don’t hide that fact. I love fall, I love pumpkins, I love sipping warm coffee on cold mornings and I love celebrating my birthday with family.

October is also a month where I learned a few things. Some good, some bad and some are quite obvious.

Regular priced books are expensive

One of my birthday wishes was to spend time browsing through the aisles of Barnes and Noble. It had been forever since I have had the time to linger through the bookstore and discover the new books. It was heavenly, although once my husband realized this wasn’t a going to be a quick trip he quickly abandoned me to go sit in the car to listen to the Royals (which to be honest, took the pressure off of me me to really enjoy my time).

I had a small list of a few titles of books I was looking for, but they only had one of the three in stock which was probably a good thing because it was expensive! I am used to paying Amazon prices, rather I am used to paying something like $0.99! Needless to say I had to pick myself up off the floor to pay something over $30 for one book. ONE BOOK.

I’m expecting a golden ticket to be hidden inside those pages.

Royals baseball is taking a serious toll on my health

While I’m thrilled our hometown team is back in the World Series, it has certainly not been good for my health, or nails for that matter! Between super close games causing anxiety, stress eating (I’m an emotional eater) and games that go on well into the night, I’m worn out.

Postseason baseball isn’t for the weak.

My husband laughs at me because I haven’t always been a baseball fan but thanks to his influence, I have become one. If I get this stressed out watching complete strangers compete, imagine what I’ll be like when my own kids start playing sports someday?

I never knew I always wanted a Keurig

This year my husband purchased for me a Keurig for my birthday. I never wanted one because I always had my trusty ol’ coffee pot, and was even considering returning it. My husband opened it before I had a chance and I’m glad he did.

I still use my coffee pot to brew a big batch of coffee to sip all morning but I also love to have an occasional cup of joe in the afternoon. My choices were to either warm up the remnants left in the morning pot, brew an entire new pot which would ultimately be wasteful since I usually only wanted a cup or load everyone up for an afternoon drive through run to Starbucks. Now I can simply throw a k-cup in and have a single serving of fresh brewed coffee!

It’s kind of genius really, but now I need to figure out how to score cheap k-cups because I can see how this afternoon habit can get expensive really quick!

A baby who is both teething and has a cold is torture

Teething has been an ongoing issue for a few months (will those darn teeth ever pop through?) but now poor baby has a cold. His nose is super runny and congested, so on top of the pain in his mouth, now he can’t breath either. Which also means he can’t sleep.

And when he can’t sleep guess who else doesn’t sleep either?

It’s been nice having some late night/early morning snuggles especially now that he is on the move, he doesn’t want to stop to eat or snuggle with mom during the day. BUT I’m exhausted and the poor thing is miserable. I know the cold will pass for him in a day or two but those stubborn teeth need to just hurry up so he can stop drooling everywhere.

It’s officially confirmed, my kids are becoming cooler than their parents

Earlier this month we dedicated the baby in church which was cause for a family celebration. It also meant the entire family was dressed up so it was perfect time to snap a few pictures.

Somehow my oldest two (who are only 3 and 4 mind you) have become incredibly photogenic recently and are the epitome of cool. Which means they are officially cooler than their daddy and me.

Seriously, how handsome is he?

I can’t handle Starbucks coffee drinks anymore

Last week I had two mornings where I was able to sneak out and have some alone time at Starbucks, plus thanks to my rewards, I was also able to score a free birthday drink too! But I’m realizing that those delightful sugary drinks are no longer a match for me.

I was wired and jittery all day, not to mention a tad lightheaded too. Since seriously cutting back on sugar (thanks to those pesky Whole 30 challenges) I can’t handle a lot of the sweet stuff anymore, which isn’t a bad thing.

It is sad I can’t enjoy the drinks of my youth 😉 but I have a newfound appreciation for good coffee with a little half and half sprinkled with cinnamon.

Customer service brings out the worst in me

Two times this week I have had to deal with customer service from two bigger companies and both times my blood pressure went through the roof I’m sure. What is it about dealing with customer service that can make an even keeled gal like me totally lose my cool?

Both situations are rectified and complete but now I’m even more appreciative for when my husband handles it.

If I don’t make a to-do list the night before, my whole day is off

The past few weeks I have gotten out of the habit of using my planner to create a to-do list. It’s been a busy season (partially due to those sleepless nights) so creating a to-do list has been one of those balls I dropped.

I need a to-do list. I thrive on a to-do list.

Not having one has sent me into the spirals of survival mode and do you know what happens when I’m in survival mode? I get stressed, overwhelmed, and I start snapping at my family.

I finally got smart and created a to-do list the other day and somehow, miraculously, peace has been restored in my days. Needless to say, I need a daily to-do list. Also the simple pleasure of crossing things off really does help me to feel productive.

My Grocery Store Delivers

I found out this month that my grocery store now offers a service where you can order online and either pick it up in the store or have it delivered to you. In case you haven’t guess yet…. this is the most AMAZING thing ever.

October 3

God bless that we live in a day and age where you can grocery shop in your PJs at night and have them delivered to your front door during nap time.

I may never leave home again…. OK that’s a lie but do you know how much time this save? Not to mention I don’t have to load three children up to take them to the store and steer a giant truck of a cart around. I’m in heaven….

What did you learn in October?
